What is Children In Sport?

A program designed to ensure that children receive the most positive experience possible from sport. The focus of this program is on learning the fundamental skills before entering into more competitive sports and on providing an opportunity for children to have life-long experiences in sport.

What is the purpose of the program?

  • To develop and deliver a province wide education program targeted at parents, volunteers, and coaches that can be used by any group, association or individual providing sport programs for children under 10 years of age.
  • There is a need to assist instructors, parents, coaches, and teachers to make the experience for children involved in sport programs as fun, positive and beneficial as possible.
  • Basic sport programs are needed that allow children to acquire confidence and fundamental skills, so they can participate and remain active in sport. Example: having lots of games can there aren’t enough opportunities to learn – the best basketball players, for instance, will be the ones touching the ball, so that means others will not get a chance to improve their skills.
